John Wasserman has been a member and shareholder of Sender & Wasserman, P.C. since 1981. John's 33 years of full-time practice have been dedicated to the areas of commercial real estate and complex bankruptcy-debtor and creditor rights.
In commercial real estate, John has counseled numerous owners of office, retail and industrial projects on such issues as leasing, acquisition, disposition, financing and development. He has represented landlords in the leasing of hundreds of thousands of square feet of office and retail spaces for both national and local tenants. He has been involved in the purchase and sale of raw ground as well as office, retail and industrial buildings.
In cases of Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy, he has represented creditors, debtors, trustees and creditors' committees in a wide variety of industries, including real estate development, hotels, heavy equipment, construction, trucking, oil and gas, and airlines. His Chapter 11 practice has primarily involved the transactional side of representing debtors in the structuring and consummation of successful plans of reorganization. John has also assisted many diverse clients with restructuring their financial and business affairs out of court to avoid a bankruptcy filing.
John has taught numerous Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses on commercial real estate leasing and on a variety of bankruptcy-related topics. Most recently, he spoke a seminar on distressed real estate and bankruptcy, at the annual meeting of the Colorado Association of Defense Lawyers. He also delivered a webinar on the Chrysler and General Motors bankruptcies for the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association. John has been named one of Colorado's Super Lawyers numerous times over the years.
Among his community activities, John serves on the Advancement Committee for Breakthrough at Kent Denver School. This program provides summer school and other year-round academic support for "at-risk" Denver middle school students to help prepare them for high school. He also serves as co-chair of the finance committee for a U.S. Representative. As previous chair of his synagogue, John successfully led its endowment campaign to raise $400,000.00.

Commercial real estate law and bankruptcy law provide me opportunities to bring deals together in ways that benefit my clients. It requires me to be creative and challenge myself intellectually and professionally.
What Is Your Approach to Practicing Law?
I aim to provide creative solutions to my clients' problems and assist them in making the right economic choice given the circumstances of their case. Every choice must be based on a cost-benefit analysis that relates the options to the client's goals.
What Is Your Unique Contribution to Your Practice?
In over 30 years of experience working through the good times and the bad times, I have dealt with a myriad of complex business and legal issues that required creative lawyering to find a solution.
Why Do You Like Living and Working in Colorado?
Who would want to live anywhere else? Our priorities here are to "work hard and play hard," which provides a great balance in life. For the most part, Colorado's legal community practices at the top of their profession in a very professional manner. Family and the outdoors are also important to me. I like to bike, ski, cook, read and spend time with my family.
